The second amendment covers gun ownership. I don't recall any amendments that cover car ownership (or driving one for that matter)
blesic - September 20, 2014, 12:36 pm,
There are no amendments about cars. One can own a car but cannot drive it legally without a license and registration.
EmmaRoydes - September 20, 2014, 12:45 pm,
the key word in your statement is "legally". You can do almost anything if you disregard legality. You can commit murder, but not legally. So, I don't understand your point.
blesic - September 20, 2014, 12:54 pm,
The point is one can buy a gun, take it home, and use it. One can buy a car, take it home, but not use it without permission.
EmmaRoydes - September 20, 2014, 12:57 pm,
What permission are you referring to that doesn't equally apply to a gun?
blesic - September 20, 2014, 1:07 pm,
A driver's license and registration. In most states you don't need a license or registration to own a gun. All that is required is a record of the purchase.
Cyberhagen - September 20, 2014, 12:27 pm,
Flawed logic. You only need take a test to get a drivers license, and even that is easily circumvented these days. You need to apply and undergo an investigation to get a gun permit; and even more so for a handgun; at least, in my state.
blesic - September 20, 2014, 12:41 pm,
You are wrong. Getting a license to drive a car is a privilege not a right. Buying a car and driving it home with no other obligations demonstrates a right.
Cyberhagen - September 20, 2014, 6:33 pm,
By that logic then, buying a gun is a privilege, not a right, because you can't just buy a gun and take it home with no other obligations or prerequisites. The point is, BOTH getting a license to drive and a license to buy a gun requires a process.
Cyberhagen - September 20, 2014, 6:34 pm,
Getting a drivers license does not require a background check and a witness or reference. Buying a gun permit does.
blesic - September 20, 2014, 7:38 pm,
In that case no one has the right to own a gun. It is only a privilege granted by the government.

You can buy a TV take it home and use it with no obligations, doesn't mean it's a right to own one
blesic - September 24, 2014, 12:22 am,
Yes it does.
Curlyrocks - September 22, 2014, 2:08 pm,
Maybe guns and cars should be treated the same, You can buy a car or a gun, take it to your home and do what you want with it on your own property. But society has to test your competence before you take it out in public where people could get hurt.

You do not have to ask to exercise a Right. You do have to ask to exercise a privilege. You have a Right to eat. You do not have a Right to eat my food. You have to barter (free market) or I can give it to you (charity) The purpose of government is to
EmmaRoydes - September 24, 2014, 2:24 am,
protect Rights.
EmmaRoydes - September 24, 2014, 2:31 am,
The U.S. Supreme Court ruled that driving an automobile was not a right, but a privilege. States can take away a person's privilege to drive if that person doesn't conform to that state's code of safe conduct.
EmmaRoydes - September 24, 2014, 2:37 am,
gun ownership is a right, not a privilege as stated in the 2nd amendment "...the right of the people to keep and bear Arms..."
blesic - September 24, 2014, 11:50 am,
In that case you should understand my poster since it says in 2 lines what you said in 10.

JunRed - September 24, 2014, 12:04 pm,
I don't remember the Right to Eat amendment.
blesic - September 25, 2014, 12:25 am,
That part was eaten by accident.
OTC - September 25, 2014, 12:57 pm,
So you're arguing your own poster?
Curlyrocks - September 25, 2014, 2:19 pm,
It's part of the whole "right to life" thing in the constitution.
JunRed - September 25, 2014, 3:39 pm,
not really. besides, I was just mocking an utterly retarded comment about a "right to eat" as an idiotic retort to gun-control. the founding fathers never intended the 2nd amendment to be an individual right or for you to carry homicidal a**ault weapons
OTC - September 25, 2014, 5:44 pm,
oh ok, suppose you educate us on that
blesic - September 26, 2014, 12:09 am,
No. I think my poster is the best one on this site.
foxrecon19d - September 26, 2014, 6:11 am,
No. I think that comment is the best one on this site.
blesic - September 26, 2014, 12:04 pm,
Thank you.
